Gas boiler service flame pictures, both showing clean combustion after servicing. Tinges of orange, red and mauve colours in the flame are normal and no problem. If the flame picture is visible we will check it during the boiler service as it gives us clues as to the combustion process and the operation of the boiler, gas fire, air heater or water heater.
Vulcan Autostat boiler. This boiler is still going and was fitted in 1968 (yes, that's 43 years).
It is a room sealed, balanced flue boiler and it runs completely safely. The gross efficiency on combustion analysis comes out at over 82% each year on test.
The "Junior" circulating pump (top left of the picture) is original to the boiler. OK, to be fair, the integral timer stopped working a few years back and an external programmer had to be fitted.
Precision pilot on a Baxi back boiler. Precision pilots are also known as oxygen depletion sensors and as atmospheric sensing devices. If oxygen levels drop the pilot loses its sharp shape and lifts away from the thermocouple tip allowing it to cool and lock out the gas valve of the boiler or fire.
